It's On!

Well folks, it seems as if the writing is on the wall in regards to the Coliseum.  Sam Adams and Randy Leonard just can't help themselves, which frankly does not surprise me with this bunch.   There is an article today on Oregonlive.com which states that the city is moving ahead with plans to place a new AAA baseball stadium where the Memorial Coliseum currently sits.  There is going to be a public meeting on April 14th to hear from people in regards to the possible demolition of the Coliseum.

Please take the time to either call or email the city council members.  I have listed their contact info on a previous post.  I cannot believe that with all of the other pressing problems in the city of Portland that the city commissioners would even consider this plan.  Lets make sure that our voices are heard in regards to the Memorial Coliseum.

  1. I'm actually happy to see the Coliseum go. I have been part of annual integrity inspections on this structure.

Our reports to the city have included warnings of structural issues that could render the facility unsafe. It certainly is not Earthquake ready despite some stop-gap retrofits added over the years. The measures needed to bring this facility up to standard would be extremely expensive - probably for taxpayers.

For safety's sake this is not a bad decision.
